Case Study: Boston Medical Center Health System strengthens employee resilience and reduces burnout with Headspace for Work

A Headspace Case Study

Preview of the Boston Medical Center Health System Case Study

With Headspace for Work, Boston Medical Center Health System expanded its mental wellness strategy to help employees weather the stress and anxiety of the pandemic

Boston Medical Center Health System, an integrated care network with more than 8,000 onsite, remote, and hybrid employees, faced acute stress and burnout among staff during the COVID-19 pandemic. Leaders needed scalable mental-health support but confronted a regional shortage of clinicians and the challenge of communicating resources to a large, dispersed workforce; they expanded their strategy using Headspace for Work.

Headspace for Work delivered an extensive, multilingual mindfulness library and a tiered communication approach, complemented by an eight-week course, integration of mindfulness into meetings and leadership programs, and an Employee Resilience Program with two licensed clinical social workers. The Headspace partnership produced highly positive feedback and measurable engagement — an estimated 900+ employees accessed at least one Resilience or Behavioral Health offering in 2021 — and BMCHS is planning to broaden mindfulness resources across daily workflows.
