Sasol's IT Transformation Emphasizes Long-Term Relationships - An IDC Case Study

Sasol, a global energy and chemicals company, faced a fragmented, infrastructure‑centric IT estate with siloed units, many vendors, inconsistent SLAs and inadequate scalability to support global expansion. To address these challenges, Sasol engaged HCL Technologies to help design and execute a multi‑stage IT transformation, beginning with consolidation and standardization and using services such as infrastructure support, datacenter backend server hosting, managed DC services and SAP hosting.

HCL Technologies implemented an iterative outsourcing and consolidation plan—standardizing platforms and SLAs, rationalizing suppliers and centralizing operations—which reduced Sasol’s datacenter footprint to three primary datacenters, increased virtualization, improved global visibility of ICT spending, and delivered cost savings and greater operational stability. The expanded HCL scope, which now includes infrastructure and backend services across Eurasia and North America, has given Sasol the agility and platform needed to roll out new services and support its One Sasol global strategy.
