A HCL Case Study
The second largest food services company in the United States faced a legacy‑driven supply chain and a decentralized, multi‑technology finance and reporting landscape (PeopleSoft, Tandem, Mainframe, Oracle, Java) that produced high defect rates, large ticket backlogs, knowledge loss and rising support costs across seven data warehouses and two reporting platforms. HCL was engaged to provide IT transformation and application development services, including application support and maintenance, SOA modernization and data warehouse consolidation.
HCL implemented specialized Centers of Excellence (SOA Transformation, Legacy Development, Data Warehouse Support, PeopleSoft and Custom Development), consolidated and retired redundant data warehouses, modernized supply‑chain services with SOA, and delivered 24x7 onsite‑offshore support using technologies like HP‑Tandem, IBM Mainframe, PeopleSoft, Oracle PL/SQL and OBIEE. The outcome was an open, scalable platform and centralized BI/DW, roughly $5M in annual savings from the enterprise data warehouse, faster time‑to‑market, 40% cost reduction via offshoring, and a clear retirement roadmap with reusable infrastructure.
