HCL’s Phase Commitment Improves A Client’s Product Quality

HCL partnered with an American multinational networking-equipment company headquartered in California that faced a growing product-defect backlog, rising customer-found defects, more than 60% of base code surfacing in new test cycles, and static revenue. HCL applied its Phase Containment process within Business Assurance & Testing to detect and fix defects earlier, reduce defect leakage to the field, and shift the program toward feature-rich releases.

HCL rolled out the Phase Containment solution in stages (analysis, pilot/improve, and mature), introducing stricter containment practices, better tooling, additional test cycles, stronger unit testing and metrics-driven monitoring. The engagement reduced field defects and improved defect-management and customer perception, increased feature velocity (adding three new applications), drove an upward revenue trend and enabled a 60% reduction in the size of the customer support team.
