A HCL Case Study
HCL worked with a leading Telecom giant in Finland responsible for mobile handset marketing, sales and after‑sales support that faced a complex, clustered system architecture with multiple external integrations. The customer needed to simulate performance for over 1,500 handsets across 120+ global sites, support frequent (≈20) performance runs per sprint, and manage resource‑heavy Java virtual users across distributed load generators — challenges HCL addressed through its Business Assurance & Testing and end‑to‑end performance engineering services.
HCL applied an Agile performance‑engineering approach with baselining, benchmarking, realistic workload creation from six months of production logs, handset/browser scripting and Keynote‑based device/network simulation across 50+ countries, distributing load over 15 LoadGenerators. HCL’s optimizations (including JVM and webserver tuning, orthogonal array test reduction and scripting best practices) cut scripts from 55 to 7 while reproducing 20,000+ unique requests, raised throughput from 200 to 450 TPS, halved response times to under 1s, improved performance ~60% via JVM tuning, and helped reduce production costs by over 20%.
