Bekaert, a Belgium-based global leader in steel wire transformation and coatings, faced the limits of a first-generation outsourcing deal that prioritized cost over flexibility and left the company with service-quality issues and an inflexible operating model. Seeking a more adaptable infrastructure arrangement and improved IT perception, Bekaert selected HCL to take over data center operations and provide infrastructure and remote infrastructure management (including partial SAP basis support).

HCL implemented a controlled transition using semi-automated migration tools, redesigned Bekaert’s operating model and delivered a dual data center in Belgium plus single sites in the US and China, migrating 300+ servers and 200+ TB of storage while connecting 77 locations across 27 countries. HCL’s approach met SLAs and KPIs, stabilized service quality, introduced business continuity and a technology refresh, and enabled centralized offshore services under a five-year contract—providing measurable improvements in uptime and support performance.
