A HCL Case Study
Avago Technologies, a semiconductor company spun out from Agilent, needed a flexible, scalable IT cost structure that could track revenue and aggressively cut spending toward a target of 1% of revenue. To do this the CIO rethought IT delivery — moving noncore functions to strategic outsourcers (Wipro for applications, HCL for infrastructure, Orange for networking) and shifting key services to the cloud, notably using Google for mail, calendar and IM.
Avago implemented a multi‑vendor outsourcing model backed by Operational Level Agreements and a “one‑team” operating concept, and migrated email and collaboration to Google Apps. Those moves delivered measurable results: a roughly $1.5 million annual saving from the Exchange→Google migration and an IT budget reduced to 1.34% of revenue, with improved global access and productivity — a transformation driven in part by Google’s cloud services.
