Achieving 90% Testing Time Reduction With HCL’s EDAT Solution

The client, a leading Japanese company involved in sales and manufacturing of Instrument clusters for automobiles, motorcycles and other applications like office automation appliances, remote controllers, LCD, OLED, faced cumbersome HUD screen testing: outsourcing to multiple vendors that used different platforms and little to no automation. HCL addressed this challenge by offering its eDAT (Electronic Device Automation Testing) framework to standardize and automate HUD validation.

HCL implemented eDAT using an FPGA Parallel RGB/RSDS frame grabber to capture images in spy mode, transferred image data over Ethernet, performed pixel-by-pixel comparisons with HCL’s image-processing library, automated GUI and CANoe test scenarios with QTP scripts, and generated automated reports. The HCL solution delivered a 90% reduction in test cycle time, reduced manual reporting errors, and—via eDAT’s device-abstraction layer—made the same setup reusable with minimal modifications across eight product lines.
