Case Study: National Australia Bank achieves low-latency, always-on market data access with Hazelcast IMDG

A Hazelcast Case Study

National Australia Bank - Customer Case Study

National Australia Bank (NAB) faced a scalability and uptime challenge: their Ehcache-based solution could not reliably cache session objects for the API gateway that all digital channels (mobile, Internet banking, and other groups) depend on. NAB needed a centralized, low-latency market data and session caching layer to reduce duplication, stabilize access, and speed integration of feeds. After evaluating options including Redis, they chose Hazelcast and specifically Hazelcast IMDG.

Hazelcast deployed Hazelcast IMDG clusters across two data centers with WAN Replication to keep them synchronized, replacing the brittle Ehcache setup. The in-memory, schema-less Hazelcast IMDG provided a highly available, elastic distributed cache that delivered stable, always-on gateway access, enabled more concurrent users and faster access to backend systems, and reduced integration and operational overhead — leveraging IMDG performance characteristics (microsecond-level reads/updates and orders-of-magnitude faster than disk-based RDBMS) to achieve measurable improvements.
