Measuring fun at a major sports event

The Finnish Ice Hockey Association, organizer of the 2022 IIHF World Championship in Finland, needed a way to measure something as intangible as “fun” across a major sports event. They turned to HappyOrNot and its Smiley Terminals and real-time feedback app to capture attendee and volunteer sentiment at scale.

HappyOrNot deployed feedback terminals across arenas, fan zones, media centers, and volunteer lounges, letting visitors answer a simple “Did you have fun?” question. The event generated 23,000 feedbacks in three weeks, including 7,000 from the main fan zone, with 90% positive feedback in the main arena and 97% positive feedback from volunteers, helping organizers spot and fix issues quickly in real time.
