How Badoo Strengthened its Senior Developer Screening Framework

Badoo, a fast‑growing social network with more than 380 million users, struggled to hire senior software engineers quickly without compromising its high technical bar. Their take‑home, three‑hour coding projects were hard for senior candidates to complete, created a manual grading bottleneck, raised security and scheduling issues, and produced a poor candidate experience — all while the team needed to scale hiring rapidly.

Badoo adopted HackerRank to automate grading, integrate with Lever ATS, offer customizable challenges and live CodePair interviews, and shorten assessment time — giving candidates flexible expiration links and a secure environment. The new process enabled screening at scale, cut the overall candidate journey from 8 to 5.5 hours, and proved effective in a one‑day hiring event where 40 developers passed the test and 9 offers were extended, significantly accelerating time‑to‑hire.
