InsuranceNow Fuels Topa Insurance Company’s Success in New Markets

Topa Insurance Company is a boutique specialty-lines insurer in Calabasas, California, focused on agility and differentiated products for wholesale brokers, MGAs, and general agents. The firm wanted to enter the fast-growing cannabis market but was constrained by disparate, legacy systems that lacked real-time integration, were costly to maintain, and slowed speed-to-market and broker self-service.

Topa implemented Guidewire’s InsuranceNow cloud SaaS with a mostly out-of-the-box, configuration-first approach and partnered with Cannasure and other integrators. The project launched five cannabis products in 21 states in nine months using essentially one developer, finished on time and under budget, and delivered faster product rollouts, improved underwriting and claims integration, direct MGA access, and a more extensible platform for future growth.
