Hastings Mutual Insurance Company, a multi-line property and casualty carrier founded in 1885 in Hastings, Michigan, needed to retire its legacy claims system to gain flexibility and leverage modern technology across personal, commercial and workers’ compensation lines. The goal was a single, modern claims platform to support personal and commercial auto, homeowners, farm, businessowners, liability, inland marine and workers’ comp business.

Hastings selected Guidewire ClaimCenter (with Guidewire Digital and Live Analytics) and integrated it with its mainframe policy system, check processing, medical bill review provider and other external systems, deploying on Windows Server with Microsoft SQL Server and entering production in May 2004. The implementation was smooth, adjusters praised the intuitive UI and productivity improvements, and executives reported the project as a model IT implementation.
