How Bonobos is creating a learning & development-focused company

Bonobos, a direct-to-consumer apparel company founded in 2007 with roughly 350 employees across NYC HQ and 22 guideshops, faced a fragmented HR landscape: recruitment, employee experience, and benefits operated in silos without a unified people strategy. As the company scaled, leadership needed to streamline people operations and preserve the company’s collaborative culture while building programs that genuinely supported employee growth.

To solve this, Bonobos centralized its People Operations (POps) under a Chief People Officer and launched targeted learning, development, and performance programs—including wellness initiatives (WTF), Managing for Success, Fit For Success (Suiting Up and Tailor Your Fit), How to Manage Up Well, and the week-long Learn.Know.Bos series. These efforts strengthened manager capability, increased cross-functional awareness and trust, and positioned POps as a strategic business function; the programs were well received, helped sustain camaraderie as the company grew, and supported talent attraction, engagement, and performance.
