GutCheck, a fast-growing Denver-based market research firm known for strong benefits and culture, needed a reliable way to hire A-player candidates while preserving its company values. As hiring volume increased, the team faced the challenge of ensuring new hires not only had the right skills but also matched GutCheck’s cultural standards, which they measure through a “give-a-shit” (GASI) index.

GutCheck implemented a structured interview process—initial phone screen, hiring-manager phone interview, an in-person skills assessment, and a Topgrading “Couch Session” that probes career history and motivators against five GASI attributes (opinionated, economically minded, honest/self-aware, trust-building, and team-oriented). Interviewers record outcomes in a candidate scorecard and debrief in Greenhouse; the result is a faster, more consistent hiring experience that delivers culturally aligned, high-performing hires.
