Sutherland Shire Council - Customer Case Study

Sutherland Shire Council, south of central Sydney, is planning a housing strategy for the next 10 to 20 years amid rising demand and a regional housing price boom. To help residents weigh in on what future housing should look like, the council worked with Granicus and its Balancing Act Housing Simulation as part of its online engagement toolkit.

Granicus helped Sutherland Shire Council create an interactive, educational consultation that let community members test different housing mixes for 1,000 additional homes. The first phase drew 557 participants, with 286 submitting plans, and produced clear preferences for preserving low-density character while allowing more dual occupancies, villas, and townhouses; the council said the tool generated far more participation than past approaches and will be used again in the next engagement round.
