North Port Supports Community Throughout Historic Storm

North Port, Florida’s communications team faced Hurricane Ian, a Category 5 storm in September 2022 and needed to deliver life‑saving shelter and emergency information to more than 70,000 residents as the storm approached and power and internet outages loomed.

Using govAccess, the team quickly reworked the city homepage and, when local power and connectivity failed, partnered with Sarasota County to keep the site and community messages live — resulting in more than 180,000 visits to the alert page (Sept 25–Oct 25), 2.5M social media impressions, uninterrupted public communications, and new emergency‑response projects.
