A Granicus Case Study
King County Elections, a large county election office in Washington, aimed to increase transparency and voter participation in its vote-by-mail process. Their challenge was to proactively inform voters about the status of their ballot and, crucially, to alert them quickly if their ballot needed correction to be counted. They partnered with the vendor Granicus to utilize the govDelivery communications platform and support from the Granicus Experience Group (GXG).
Granicus implemented a solution that integrated a custom-built API to connect the county's voter information system with govDelivery, enabling targeted text and email alerts at each stage of ballot processing. This provided real-time updates to opted-in voters in multiple languages. The results were significant: in the 2022 General Election, over 80% of alerted voters cured their challenged ballots, a 67% greater cure rate than unalerted voters. Furthermore, Granicus helped achieve a 91% greater voter turnout among opt-in participants in a subsequent special election, dramatically increasing voter engagement and trust.
