The U.S. Department of Labor’s HIRE Vets Medallion Award, launched in 2017 to recognize employers who recruit, hire, and retain veterans, faced a major awareness challenge: the program had no brand recognition and was funded only by application fees, so the team needed an effective, low-cost way to drive participation nationwide.
Partnering with the Granicus Experience Group and using govDelivery, HIRE Vets implemented an audience-capture and outreach strategy that evolved as the program grew. Over three years this approach produced a 127% increase in accepted applications, a 58% rise in program revenue (from $72,000 to $114,000), 232 repeat applicants, and outreach to 3.6 million recipients.
