How Pandemic Lessons Shifted Digital Community Outreach

Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department needed a faster, more trusted way to reach one of Washington’s most diverse communities with reliable public health information during COVID-19. Facing vaccine hesitancy, misinformation, and historic distrust of government and healthcare, the agency turned to Granicus tools including govAccess for its website and govDelivery for digital messaging and audience segmentation.

Granicus helped the Health Department deliver plain-language, community-specific communications across email, web, and other channels, supported by data-driven segmentation and subscriber capture. The results were significant: blog subscriptions grew from about 200 to nearly 50,000, the COVID-19 vaccine webpage drew more than 2.2 million visits, the campaign reached people more than 225 million times, and residents received about 1.7 million vaccine doses.
