The City of Missoula faced growing short-term rental challenges, including low registration compliance, limited visibility into whole-unit rentals, and increasing public debate over housing impacts. Working with Granicus, the city used the Host Compliance tool and the Engage Missoula website powered by EngagementHQ to better track rentals, manage registrations, and improve communication with residents and operators.

Granicus implemented a more data-driven compliance and engagement approach that gave Missoula staff a dashboard for monitoring properties, automated reminders for renewals, and a public-facing project page for sharing reports and gathering feedback. The city achieved a 90% identification rate across 583 short-term rentals, reduced research time by more than half, and improved staff efficiency and outreach while helping keep the issue from dominating public conversation.
