How Kansas DOT engaged their community for a major road project

The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) needed to engage residents early ahead of a major K-96 highway improvement project in Wichita, a heavily traveled corridor facing congestion, safety, and capacity issues. To open the process to the community and gather feedback before construction began, KDOT used Granicus’ EngagementHQ to create a dedicated project engagement site.

Granicus helped KDOT launch a branded, interactive website with two-way feedback tools, project updates, open house materials, FAQs, event information, videos, and Spanish, Arabic, and Vietnamese translations. Since launching in November 2022, the site has averaged 572 new users per month, over 1,000 page views, 629 engagement events, and more than 220 subscribers, helping KDOT build strong early public buy-in and setting a model for future projects.
