How Hartford, CT Took Their City Hall Completely Digital

Hartford, CT, under Mayor Luke Bronin, needed to modernize how residents access city services online. Much of the website relied on PDFs and in-person processes, and public records requests were growing rapidly, so the city set out to redesign its site with a user-centered, data-driven focus to make transactions, transparency, and timely service easier.

Partnering with Granicus, Hartford converted many PDFs into digital forms, rebuilt permitting, and implemented public-records software. Within a year the new site launched with 100+ forms; today it supports over 200 forms and more than 24,000 submissions, streamlines public-records requests, and significantly increases access to digital city services.
