How Durham Region, ON Engages Communities on Truth and Reconciliation Issues

Durham Region (Your Durham) set out to raise awareness around regional events and the legacy of residential schools ahead of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Staff needed a single, consistent engagement platform so residents could easily find events and resources, join conversations, and provide feedback.

By adopting EngagementHQ, Durham created a centralized digital space for outreach, virtual surveys and newsletters to engage Indigenous communities and the broader public. The campaign delivered a 14.3% engagement rate, page visits at twice the target, 50% newsletter open rates, and roughly 2,000 residents participating—strengthening community dialogue and momentum for commemoration.
