Connecting Families to Build a Unique Digital Veteran Memorial

The Veterans Legacy Memorial (VLM), an online memorial honoring more than 4.4 million veterans, needed a way to grow awareness and encourage families to contribute tributes while managing the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and limited access to national cemeteries. The site launched in 2019 and was designed to preserve veterans’ stories and serve as a digital resource for families, students, and researchers.

Granicus helped the National Cemetery Administration use govDelivery for targeted awareness campaigns around Memorial Day and Veterans Day, supported by blog, social, and media outreach. With Granicus, VLM reached over 200,000 subscribers, achieved nearly 50% open rates, and drove more than 40,000 content engagements on veteran pages, helping build audiences, relationships, and remote participation during the pandemic.
