Case Study: AEP Energy achieves predictive peak-load forecasting to reduce customer energy costs with GoSecure

A GoSecure Case Study

Preview of the AEP Energy Case Study

AEP Energy Partners With Gosecure to Predict Peak Load on Electrical Grids

AEP Energy, a certified retail energy supplier serving homeowners, small businesses and industrial customers, faced a challenge helping clients avoid costly capacity and transmission charges that can account for 20–40% of an industrial customer’s annual bill. Those charges are driven by a handful of seasonal peak hours that are only known after the season ends, so AEP Energy partnered with GoSecure to develop more accurate, actionable guidance for when customers should enact curtailment strategies.

GoSecure built a probabilistic forecasting methodology that leverages historical load uncertainty to compute the probability that specific hours will be seasonal peaks or daily maxima and extended this approach across multiple regional grids with different seasons and weather patterns. The solution gave AEP Energy more granular, accurate load forecasts, enabling customers to make informed curtailment decisions to reduce exposure to peak-driven capacity and transmission charges and increasing the value of AEP Energy’s service.
