WellChild, a UK charity supporting seriously ill children and their families, relied entirely on donations but struggled to convert one-off givers into regular supporters due to a manually intensive Direct Debit setup and a website that made recurring payments hard to manage. To simplify recurring giving they implemented GoCardless for Direct Debit (using the GoCardless API and dashboard) alongside Stripe for one-off card payments.
Working with a digital agency, WellChild built a single donation module integrating GoCardless to automate Direct Debit sign-ups and provide an easier, mobile-friendly donor experience. GoCardless’s automated setup and reporting helped WellChild boost online donations by 47%, save £20 per month in fees plus 50p per new Direct Debit sign-up, and recover half a day of staff time each month previously spent on manual setup.
