A Gleam Case Study
Shopify set out to prove anyone could build a profitable online store in three days and wanted to turn that tutorial into a high‑engagement community event. They built an e‑commerce business from scratch, documented the whole process in a longform blog post, and planned to give the entire business away to one reader — the challenge was to convert readers into participants and amplify the post across social channels.
To execute, Shopify embedded a Gleam widget (Competitions + Galleries) at the bottom of the post with actions like newsletter signups, tweets/retweets, social follows, referrals and gallery submissions. In six days the post generated 26,000 impressions, 20,408 social actions, 3,500 unique entrants (13.3% of readers), 1,500+ tweets and an average of 5.8 actions per entrant, driving massive social reach, newsletter growth and product engagement.
