A GitHub Case Study
Buffer, the fully remote social media management platform serving 75,000 customers worldwide, needed a better way to coordinate engineering work across time zones. Before using GitHub, team discussions were scattered across Zoom, Google Docs, and Jira, creating knowledge silos and making releases, design feedback, and architectural decisions hard to track. Buffer adopted GitHub to centralize collaboration and keep development work visible alongside code.
Using GitHub and GitHub Actions, Buffer moved architectural reviews into pull requests, streamlined QA and design feedback, automated release workflows, and added scheduled dependency checks and security updates. GitHub helped Buffer reduce manual work, speed up beta releases, improve transparency, and strengthen security; it also made onboarding easier because developers already knew the platform. Buffer reported that releases became much more efficient, dependency fixes that once took two hours or more were automated, and faster beta shipping led to more customer feedback and better production releases.
