BC Transit fully electrifies a main garage service with GIRO, avoiding extra vehicles

BC Transit, a large public bus operator in British Columbia, collaborated with vendor GIRO to validate its plan for transitioning to a battery electric bus fleet. Their challenge was to ensure this electrification could be achieved without needing extra vehicles or costly on-route charging infrastructure, all while maintaining their existing service levels and controlling costs.

Using the HASTUS software, GIRO conducted a detailed feasibility study that modeled multiple scheduling scenarios. The solution confirmed that a direct 1:1 replacement of diesel buses with electric buses was possible without requiring any additional vehicles or on-route charging for the initial deployment. This result gave BC Transit greater confidence in its electrification process and demonstrated that GIRO's tools could help control capital investments and optimize schedules effectively.
