USF Promotes Public Health Education Through Innovative Mobile Campaign

The University of South Florida’s College of Public Health needed a way to reach students on their mobile phones to educate them about contraception options. With a large student population but limited in-person reach, the challenge was to deliver targeted, accessible public-health information where students already spend time: on their phones.

Using Genesys Mobile Engagement, students texted the keyword “BTC” to short code 99222 and entered an SMS-driven flow that directed them to a branded mobile site with a relevant educational video. From there they could watch more videos, use a zip-code provider lookup to find local care, and take an anonymous survey for a chance at a $10 gift card. The small pilot (a few hundred participants) exceeded USF’s expectations and paved the way for broader mobile outreach initiatives.
