Case Study: Wheel achieves faster hiring and greater engineering diversity with Gem

A Gem Case Study

Preview of the Wheel Case Study

Wheel Uses Gem to Intentionally Build a Diverse Engineering Team

Wheel, a healthcare technology platform, struggled to scale its engineering team without sacrificing diversity: they lacked top-of-funnel diversity data, had no visibility into which outreach or messaging resonated with different groups, and relied on manual follow-ups that slowed hiring. To change that, Wheel turned to Gem’s recruiting platform for sourcing, automated outreach, messaging analytics, nurture sequences, and pipeline analytics.

With Gem, Wheel automated personalized outreach, tracked gender and race/ethnicity outreach stats, A/B-tested content, and implemented long-term nurture campaigns. The results: in eight months Wheel grew to 29% of engineers identifying as women and 64% underrepresented talent, made 38 hires through Gem (nearly a third of hires since full onboarding), shortened time-to-hire, and now delivers regular diversity and top-of-funnel data to leadership to inform hiring and employer branding.
