A GE Digital Case Study
AirAsia, a leading low-cost carrier with a fleet of 160+ aircraft operating over 340,000 flights a year, sought to improve operational efficiency, reduce fuel costs and enhance the customer experience. To meet these challenges the airline partnered with GE Digital, deploying GE Digital’s Flight Efficiency Services (FES) — a suite of data-driven fuel management, flight-data analytics and precision navigation services.
GE Digital’s FES combined advanced analytics, a Fuel Management Dashboard and Required Navigation Performance (RNP) procedures to optimize climb profiles, enable single‑engine taxi operations and shorten flight paths. The measures delivered measurable gains — targeting $30–50M in operational savings over five years, saving more than 60 kg of fuel per flight via single‑engine taxi, cutting distances by up to 25 NM at some airports, and implementing precision approaches at 15 Malaysian, 4 Indonesian and 4 Thai airports — while improving safety and reducing cancellations and diversions.
