Tempcover reduces annual loss ratio by 20 points using GBGroup’s ID Verification service

Tempcover is an online short‑term car and van insurer that issues around 40,000 quotes a month and writes roughly £12m in annual premiums. To prevent application and payment fraud at policy inception it needed more accurate online identity checks (name, address, date of birth); its initial CRA solution missed matches and let fraudulent applications through, so Tempcover turned to GBG and its Identity Verification solution.

GBG ran a proof‑of‑concept on Tempcover’s historical data and then integrated its Identity Verification service into Tempcover’s web flow, adding document checks for passports and driving licences where needed. The GBG deployment increased first‑time matches, raised acceptance of genuine customers, and cut application fraud—delivering a 20‑point drop in loss ratios (about a 20% reduction in claims) and roughly £1m saved in claims in the first year while boosting premium income.
