Compton Unified School District Incorporates Data Analytics

Compton Unified School District in Compton, CA used data and analytics to support its turnaround effort across 36 sites and a K-12 enrollment of 29,194. The district wanted to use data to guide decisions, but administrators found that the information they collected often raised more questions than answers, and it was difficult for staff to access and use the data consistently.

Frontline Education’s Student Analytics Lab, formerly 5Lab, was brought in at the beginning of 2020 to automatically compile student data and create customizable dashboards and key indicators. Using attendance and course grade data, Compton Unified could identify students at high, medium, low, or no risk of graduating on time, share lists with leadership teams, and explore tutoring partnerships. Jorge Torres said the platform exceeded expectations and staff praised the simplicity of accessing and drilling down into the data.
