A Foursquare Case Study
Replica, a city-planning data company, needed a better way to understand how redesigning intersections could improve pedestrian safety in New York City. With more than 50,000 intersections to evaluate and a goal of informing safer decisions, Replica turned to Foursquare Studio for data visualization to analyze traffic patterns, injury rates, demographics, and other citywide factors.
Replica used Foursquare Studio to build interactive maps from a comprehensive intersection dataset, giving policymakers and the public a clearer view of where incidents occur and what trends drive them. Foursquare’s analysis helped reveal that the busiest intersections were not always the ones with the greatest safety benefit, and that intersections with more travelers from lower-income areas saw higher incident rates, helping Replica support more equitable pedestrian safety recommendations.
