Kontur, a geospatial data and real-time risk management solutions provider, wanted to make 20 years of wildfire data and other climate-related insights more accessible and understandable at a global scale. To do this, the company looked for a way to present vast spatial and temporal datasets in an easy-to-use visual format, including wildfire trends and vulnerable-population heat exposure data.

Foursquare provided Kontur with Studio Map SDK and Hex Tiles to ingest, transform, and display massive datasets in real time directly in the browser, with timestamp filtering for timeline playback and deeper analysis. Foursquare also supported customization through its API for branded UI elements. The result was an efficient way to join global population and temperature datasets, helping users analyze climate impacts over time and make faster decisions about wildfire response, cooling centers, water distribution, and other interventions.
