How Yum! Brands makes smarter site selection decisions with point of interest (POI) Data

Yum! Brands worked with Foursquare to improve new site selection decisions as it expanded its international footprint. The challenge was understanding the nuances of emerging markets and identifying which trade areas were saturated with competitors or best suited for a new location.

Foursquare provided POI data through Foursquare Places, accessed via the AWS Data Exchange, and Yum! Brands used select location attributes to score and rank site choices. This gave Yum! Brands clearer insight into nearby competitors and categories, helped speed up site validation and investment decisions, and reduced the time needed to discover and evaluate new locations.
