Case Study: Salt River Project achieves 10X cash payment access and cost savings with Fiserv CheckFreePay

A Fiserv Case Study

Preview of the Salt River Project Case Study

Salt River Project (SRP) partnered with Fiserv to help lower costs, increase accessibility and drive customer satisfaction for in-person bill payments

Salt River Project (SRP), a community-based not-for-profit serving more than two million people in Central Arizona, relied on 69 company-managed PayCenter kiosks for cash bill payments. Facing high maintenance costs, limited locations, long lines, and kiosks that couldn’t provide change or accept large cash amounts, SRP partnered with Fiserv to find a more cost-effective, accessible payment solution using Fiserv’s CheckFreePay service.

Fiserv implemented CheckFreePay, giving SRP real-time account validation and notifications and access to an extended network (about 80,000 nationwide) with 600+ payment locations in SRP’s territory—a roughly 10X local increase. By retiring the kiosk network, SRP reduced costs, expanded in-person options (pay by account number or barcode, receive receipts and change), and now processes $4–5 million in CheckFreePay in-person payments monthly, improving convenience and customer satisfaction.
