Firefly Credit Union Focus on Scanning Turns Months-Long Backlog Into Same-Day Processing

Firefly Credit Union, a $1 billion, 90-year-old Minnesota credit union serving more than 70,000 members, faced months-long scanning backlogs, misclassified and missing documents, and slowed member service after an external audit highlighted deficiencies. To address this, the credit union turned to Fiserv and deployed Nautilus Advanced Capture (integrated with Fiserv’s XP2 account processing) to standardize and automate document imaging.

Fiserv’s Nautilus Advanced Capture was implemented alongside a process redesign—scanning responsibility moved to IT, two full-time imaging reps were hired, and over two dozen capture templates automated classification—eliminating manual indexing and misclassification. As a result, Firefly Credit Union cleared membership and loan backlogs, tripled its average monthly scanned volume, and now processes daily work the same day documents are received, with business units proactively submitting scans.
