A FICO Case Study
The Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic needed to publish detailed national and regional statistics without revealing confidential information about individuals or businesses, a problem made acute by small “cells” with few respondents. Manual suppression methods were slow, exposed data through extra human handling, and often produced suboptimal results that reduced data usefulness or failed to guarantee confidentiality.
The office implemented τ-ARGUS powered by the FICO® Xpress Optimization Suite to compute optimal secondary suppressions, minimizing the number of suppressed cells while ensuring disclosure control. Processing times dropped from weeks to hours—and in some cases minutes—while preserving data utility and strengthening confidentiality, making the solution a benchmark for statistical offices.
