Shell drives plant processing eficiency with FICO® Xpress Optimization

Shell Global Solutions, a multinational energy company operating across dozens of countries, needed to automate control of complex, large-scale industrial processes while improving efficiency, reliability, sustainability and safety across diverse assets. Manual operations and high variability made it difficult to optimize throughput, energy use and emissions without risking excursions outside safe limits.

Shell and Yokogawa deployed the Platform for Advanced Control and Estimation (PACE) built around the FICO® Xpress Optimization Suite to deliver real-time, multivariable nonlinear optimization and control. Using FICO Xpress solvers, PACE enabled tighter setpoints and autonomous control, producing measurable results: improved product quality and margins, reduced variability and greenhouse gas emissions, lower operating costs, and increased reliability across LNG, GTL, chemical, refining and upstream operations.
