A FICO Case Study

Preview of the Santander Brasil Case Study

Santander Brazil spurs post-merger growth with Decision Management solution

Grupo Santander’s Brazil unit, the sixth-largest private bank in the country with about 5% market share, faced a post-acquisition fragmentation of its credit card operations: four outsourced processors, inconsistent rules across channels and largely manual portfolio management. The bank needed to grow its credit card business and market share while controlling losses by consolidating and automating decisioning across portfolios.

Santander Brazil implemented FICO TRIAD Customer Manager for authorizations and credit facilities, centralizing processing, adding a feedback loop and using champion/challenger testing to refine strategies. The changes delivered rapid gains—an overlimit challenger produced 25% higher approvals and halved delinquencies, a seasonal overlimit strategy lifted approvals by 13%, and overall in 2006 approval rates rose 8% while delinquencies fell 50%—improving utilization, customer satisfaction and earning industry recognition.
