A FICO Case Study

Samsung Card - Customer Case Study

Samsung Card, a leading Korean credit card issuer with nearly 10 million cardholders, offers a broad range of payment and financial services including loans, cash advances and leases. Facing a stagnant customer base and global economic uncertainty, the company needed to tighten credit standards while identifying which customers could safely handle additional credit to grow transaction volume without increasing risk.

To address this, Samsung Card implemented the FICO Credit Capacity Index, which uses Future-Action Impact Modeling to predict consumers’ tolerance for incremental debt and differentiate customers with similar traditional risk scores. Rolled out with FICO consultants beginning in 2009 (the first use in the Asia‑Pacific region), the Index has delivered encouraging results—enabling more targeted credit-line increases for high-capacity customers, better exposure control and improved profitability.
