A FICO Case Study
Mutual of Omaha, a nationwide multi-line insurance and financial services provider with more than 70,000 internal and external users, needed a flexible but secure way to control application authorization and dynamically render portal content. Their legacy approach of adding attributes to LDAP had become unmanageable, and they required role-based rules for UI rendering, RMA decision-table security, separation across dev/test/prod, and a way for business users—not IT—to maintain access rules.
They implemented the FICO Blaze Advisor business rules management system to externalize and centralize authorization logic. The solution eliminated LDAP hard‑coding, put rule changes in the hands of business users, supported 230+ roles, reduced LDAP maintenance and developer overhead (saving roughly $100K annually), enabled immediate rule updates and troubleshooting, and created reusable components that increased ROI and sped deployment of additional applications.
