Avis Europe, a large multinational car rental operator with ~99,000 vehicles across 3,800 offices and 8 million customers, faced the complex challenge of maximizing fleet utilization and margins amid tight industry competition. Reliance on manual pricing, reservations and fleet-allocation processes made it difficult to forecast demand accurately and allocate the right cars to the right locations and customers.

Working with FICO, Avis implemented FICO Xpress Optimization to deliver system-based forecasts and prescriptive recommendations for fleet distribution, sales restrictions and pricing signals. The solution increased fleet utilization by two percentage points—equating to about $19 million in annual incremental benefit—while boosting profitability, improving customer experience and providing clearer, more transparent decision-making; the company is now rolling out further automation and planning enhancements.
