A FICO Case Study
A large, national credit card issuer faced the challenge of safely growing receivables by finding the most profitable credit-line increase strategies without exceeding risk limits. With hundreds of variables (behavior, scores, action scenarios) and competing business objectives and resource constraints, the issuer needed a more empirical, transparent way to design strategies that balanced revenue, losses and contingent liability.
Using FICO Custom Decision Optimization, the issuer combined a calibrated decision model and an optimization tool to simulate and choose optimal, constraint-aware line‑increase actions and to view strategies interactively. In an 11‑month test the optimized strategy raised cumulative profit by more than $6 per active account (about $6 million per million accounts), drove higher average balances with delinquency controlled, and enabled faster rollout and more agile strategy adjustments.
