A FICO Case Study
Elo is a Brazilian payment-technology network founded in 2011 to offer locally tailored credit, debit and prepaid card solutions and expand domestic acceptance. As Elo grew—partnering internationally and adding thousands of issuers and merchants—it faced rising fraud risk, especially card-not-present (e-commerce) fraud, and needed a scalable, trusted fraud solution that could protect both large and small issuers across domestic and international transactions.
Elo implemented FICO Falcon Fraud Manager on the FICO Cloud and joined the FICO Falcon Intelligence Network, repackaging the service as “Elo Aquila.” The cloud deployment and consortium-powered machine learning delivered scalable, always-updated protection for all issuers, helping Elo capture 15% of Brazil’s card market, onboard 30+ new issuers, and materially reduce fraud: overall fraud basis points fell from 51 to 36, card-not-present fraud from 49 to 16, and CNP fraud for Elo’s top two issuers improved by 56 basis points (145 → 89).
