A FICO Case Study
Bank of Communications, one of China’s oldest and most innovative banks, launched the Pacific Credit Card Center with HSBC to enter the rapidly growing Chinese credit card market. Facing a short credit history and limited data while processing up to 10,000 applications a day and issuing over 5 million cards, the bank needed a fast, standardized way to assess applicant risk, set limits and pricing, and manage portfolio behavior to achieve profitable growth.
The bank adopted FICO Model Builder, a development environment that lets analysts visualize data, build and test predictive models, and deploy them rapidly without extensive recoding. Model Builder was used for application scoring, behavior scorecards, collections and anti‑fraud models, and Basel II PD/LGD/EAD modeling, cutting model development and deployment time by months — improving agility, reducing costs and operational risk, and directly benefiting the bottom line.
