A Facebook Case Study
Kathmandu, the New Zealand–born outdoor and travel retailer, wanted to connect with younger adventure seekers and drive both brand awareness and sales. With 30 years of product heritage, the challenge was to reposition the brand for a travel‑focused, mobile audience and maximize the reach of its video creative on Facebook.
Over a 10‑week Facebook campaign, Kathmandu and GroupM Connect ran six mobile‑first, sound‑off videos plus photo and carousel ads, using Custom Audiences, Summit Club targeting, interest‑based reach and retargeting to engage travel intenders. The campaign (Feb–May 2016) delivered a 6% lift in ad recall (15% for Summit Club members), reached 5.5 million people and achieved an 8.6X return on ad spend.
